Song Lyrics:(on play)
“Didn’t We Live” looks back on a broken relationship with grief, affection and the lingering pride of having loved wholeheartedly. Fallan builds its emotional story around a question that carries both disbelief and gratitude: how did something so full of life come to this?
The writing finds its strength in the shifting perspectives. “Wasn’t it me who always said, catch the moment before it’s dead” gives way to “Wasn’t it you who stole the sun,” allowing regret and accusation to share the same space. Pale blue eyes turning to grey give fading love a quiet visual presence, while “the silence is louder than the words that were thrown” captures the painful aftermath of an argument.
At its centre, “Didn’t we live, didn’t we live big?” feels like a celebration caught inside a lament. There is an almost childlike innocence in Fallan’s question—a vulnerable need for reassurance that the love was real, that it mattered, and that the other person remembers it too. The movement from “I gave you it all” to “Didn’t we have it all” shifts the emphasis from personal sacrifice to something shared and lost. When the bridge asks, “How do I go on, even one more day?”, that vulnerability is laid bare.
Heartfelt and generous in its view of imperfect love, “Didn’t We Live” finds Fallan mourning an ending while honouring everything that made it matter.
